Mary Roach
Have you ever wondered how you poop in space? Did you know cadavers have been used to study g-force trauma? Or that Russian Cosmonauts got drunk and had a fist fight in space? Mary Roach covers all the topics that space agencies don't discuss (or want discussed) in polite society. This is a moderately light read in an easy to access conversational tone. By turns it is fascinating, disgusting and informative. At times she even notes that officials and participants stopped answering her emails, or began dodging her calls. She is not afraid to experience the trials of space program research herself in pursuing the story, whether going up in NASA's infamous "Vomit Comet" or exploring the trials of a camera guided mini space toilet. A great weekend read for everything you ever wanted to know about space research and travel, but were afraid to ask, as well as a number of things you never even realized you didn't know.
Read/had read to me by my Kindle as part of the January 2019 #24in48 readathon.
